Pomegranates

Pomegranates, Punica granatum, are nutrient-rich fruits belonging to the family Lythraceae, widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical regions. Known for their tough outer rind and juicy, ruby-red arils, they offer a sweet-tart flavor and refreshing taste.

They are an excellent source of antioxidants, vitamin C, potassium, and dietary fiber, making them highly beneficial for health. The edible arils are consumed fresh or used in juices, salads, and desserts.

Pomegranate cultivation thrives in warm climates with an optimum temperature range of 25–35°C. The crop prefers well-drained loamy soil and requires low to moderate rainfall, making it suitable for semi-arid regions. In India, major producing states include Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat, where it is an important commercial fruit crop.
