About this Produce

Black pepper is one of the most commonly used spices worldwide. Botanical name Piper nigrum, it is a flowering vine in the family Piperace- ae, cultivated for its fruit, known as peppercorn, which is usually dried and used as a spice and seasoning. It is more than just a kitchen staple. Deemed the “king of spices”, it is widely used in ancient Ayurvedic medicine for its high concentration of potent, beneficial plant compound, piperine which has potent antioxidant properties.

When fresh and fully mature, the fruit is about 5 mm (0.20 in) in diameter and dark red, containing a single seed, like all drupes. Peppercorns and the ground pepper derived from them may be described simply as pepper, or more precisely as black pepper (cooked and dried unripe fruit), green pepper (dried unripe fruit), or white pepper (ripe fruit seeds).
